Teletone Audio
Inspired virtual instruments for today’s music creators
On the hunt for a single new sound, we spun up a whole new business.
The challenge:
Our client Jeremy Larson couldn’t find his ideal sound in the maze of available Kontakt Instruments. Missing that special mixture of nostalgia and modern sound, he just decided to craft it himself. Although the sounds and the identity were clear, the path to producing the final product was not.
The solution:
Good Folk put together a team that didn’t just launch one new virtual instrument, but laid the foundation for a self-sustaining business.
On the surface, Larson’s initial product concept was a stand-alone VI (virtual instrument) disconnected from a larger brand identity. We expanded his vision for one instrument into a brand that could release multiple products and feature various collaborations, stretching the release runway from months to years. Thus, the brand of Teletone and Larson’s first VI, the “Postcard Piano,” were born.
The creative part of making a VI is certainly fun. But nuts and bolts like ecommerce, user experience, terms of service, privacy policies, and digital security (not to mention refund policies!) are just as important. Good Folk created these less-sexy components to lay a strong foundation for a reliable and effective storefront that could actually deliver on the brand vision and promise.
We were happy to help identify a new opportunity for Larson and his work in the music industry. We’re especially happy it’s a product that serves the creator community first. His traditional path of writing or producing records will always be an option, but Teletone allows him to be his own boss and more importantly, story worrying about recoupment while maintaining full ownership of his work. Not something very common on the traditional route.
We like to think our special power at Good Folk is taking talent from our clients and translating it into business opportunities that redefine job security. Teletone outperformed on every level.
